I had to consult Emily Post again on this since these types of weddings are rare in my life. This designation is a bit of a contradiction but if you combine elements that are a little bit dressy with casual you should be just fine. In fact when you look at this for a while, look at the original and you’ll see it start to turn gold and white.
This technique allows for more prominent definition, especially in the outer and inner corners. Finish with a few coats of your favorite mascara and a soft contour on the cheeks, topped off with highlighter. Purple with grey is also good, so perhaps a silver grey top might creap into my wardrobe as I have a spendid purple jacket. Silvery grey is better for me than grey grey or dark grey. Mind you… now that I am blond… I might have to re-evaluate.
The Under Eyeliner
This color is an excellent choice to wear with black dresses and comes in varying shades, as well. Try this eyeshadow in "Green Depth" from Kjaer Weis, or whatever speaks to you—whether you want a pastel or metallic finish, green really switches things up from everyday neutrals. Don't be afraid to experiment with bold and colorful makeup when wearing a black dress, if you're used to wearing softer tones and not much else. This bright blue eyeshadow, placed strategically in the center of the top and bottom lids, helps to define and bring a lovely contrast.
When recreating this look, line the rims of your eyes with a long-lasting, waterproof eyeliner before adding your eyeshadow of choice. Finish with a few coats of your favorite volumizing mascara. Rose gold eyelids give life to this makeup look and accentuate a black dress in all the best ways.
Going Green
When wearing neutral colors, enhancing eyebrows, eyelashes, and cheekbones are all ways of defining features without wearing a lot of product. Shimmering white shadow creates a striking contrast when paired with smoky eyeliner and lots of mascara. You can choose to wear this color alone, or add definition in the crease by contouring with a deeper shade to bring out your features. Smudged eyeliner on the top and bottom waterline can elevate neutral eye makeup in an instant and doesn't involve complicated steps.
While blush has become the most popular go-to wedding dress color alternative, I am really digging black and gray lately. A festive, detailed flick takes eye makeup a step further than everyday trends and looks amazing when worn with a black dress. Shaped brows and a shiny, glossy lip don't take away from the work of art on the eyes. Winged eyeliner comes in many styles, and this subtle, defined liner makes the classic makeup style look eloquent as ever.

Because usually, a tasteful all-black outfit is the uniform of choice for the catering staff, photographers, DJ, and other vendors who are working the event. You don't want to have to spend the reception explaining you're a guest - so add a little bit of color and sparkle to your outfit. Glossy pink eyelids and cheeks are giving ethereal vibes, and the colors pop even more when worn with a black dress. Multi-use products that work on the eyes, cheeks, and lips are helpful when creating monochromatic makeup looks. Jillian Dempsey's Lid Tint in Dew can be added to makeup to instantly make it glossy. Gleaming gold tones aren't only for golden hour, as the warm hues bring a delicate glow to the skin that works well with a black dress or any going-out outfit.
The pop of color on the lips and cheeks creates a radiant glow that works well with the dramatic eye makeup. But the weird thing is how certain I was it was black and blue and how certain my father was that it was gold and white. What a marvelous moment it was for me to realize no one was really “right or wrong”…. But experiencing it and seeing the white and gold as well, was eye opening.
Bliss Monique Lhuillier Wedding Dresses Fall 2020
Black tie optional dress code, is formal but with the option of black tie. I would assume that the wedding party will be wearing tuxedos and formal attire, but the guests need not exactly meet that level of formality. It's more than ok to wear a black dress to a wedding in my book, in fact, it's pretty common! However, dressing in a non-festive black outfit--for instance, a very simple work-type black sheath dress or a black shirt and pants is a bad idea.
It's sometimes hard to know this, but sometimes you can guess at a potential color scheme from the invitation and other elements. It's not the end of the world, but it can be awkward if you're wearing exactly the same outfit as the wedding party. For instance if you wear a suit like the groomsmen and the same color tie - you will probably get mistaken as one of the gang. For women, we think it's really hard to completely avoid most bridesmaid dress colors because popular colors blue, pink, and green make great colors for wedding guest dresses too. However, if you know for sure what the color scheme is or what style of dress the bridesmaids are wearing, try to avoid coming too close to that style and color with your own attire.
